Huzzah! A hearty congrats to everyone who participated in NaNoWriMo even the slightest bit. If you didn’t reach the 50k, at least you hopefully wrote more than you had before. If you did “win”, a bigger huzzah for you! There’s still a few more hours for those still behind–not too late to catch up.
For those that did brave the month, it’s important to remember that what comes next will only make you stronger. (I say this only because I am already cringing at the thought of editing and what that entails). This is the first NaNo in several years that I actually think is not horrible. I did not stop halfway through and think, “uh oh, something’s gone wrong.” Nope, this time, it seemed to work out. Of course, that thought in itself is terrifying. There must be something I missed.
For those thinking about editing this novel, I advise giving it a rest. Give yourself a break from writing and thinking about it and then come back to it with a fresh perspective. I can almost guarantee you will discover it is far better than you’re thinking, or far worse. Either way, editing is a necessary evil.
But for now, rejoice that the month is over. Holidays are approaching, and use them as an excuse to do whatever you want with your time. No one’s judging you for that unfinished manuscript sitting on your computer. It’ll be there when you get back. For now, enjoy and be grateful it’s over.
