Here we go again, right? I hope you have a plot or an idea or a something because NaNo is right around the corner (only two days!). I have… something, but that’s not always enough. I tend to straddle the line between plotter and pantser. I don’t know that you can always be completely prepared for what’s coming when you participate in something like NaNo. You’re kind of at the mercy of your brain and how fast your fingers can type.
Either way, it’s here and it’s time to commit! So far, I haven’t lost one NaNo in eight years and I hope this isn’t the year I do lose. There are just a lot of things up in the air for November so far, and only time will tell how they will work out. In the meantime, I plan to work on my novel as much as time allows.

A lot of people used to ask me if I’d go back to China. They’ve stopped asking so much anymore, probably because the experience isn’t shiny or new anymore. It’s been five years since I came back from my year in China and generally, people don’t even mention it. I don’t mention it much either, but it’s always there, lingering in the back of my mind. I think about China when I’m having bad months and wonder if it would be so bad to just move back. I think about how easy it would be to email my contact and have a job and place to live in a day. It would be easy. Beyond easy.

Well, I completely missed last week. You ever have one of those weeks where you get absolutely nothing done? Yeah, that was me last week. Between surprise visits and a stressful week of waiting, I completely spaced most things I was supposed to do, including writing this. The bad news is, of course, that NaNo is coming up and I’m beginning to think I may not get through it this year.
